The FL125 Greatest Manager voting shortlists were compiled from data submitted by Football League clubs, which was collected from fans through social media. Supporters were asked to submit their suggestions by interacting with their respective clubs through Twitter, using #FL125 and #GreatManagers.

The nominees were: 

Stan Ternant - Took over the club fifth from bottom of League 2, finished the season as runners-up and as champions the season after to take Bury into the Championship.

Bobby Smith - Young inexperienced manager that transformed the club with an entertaining brand of football.

Alan Knill - Transformed the club from relegation candidates to promotion chasers within a season.

Norman Bullock - Took Bury into the First Division and led them to a highest ever league finish of fourth.

Martin Dobson – Dobson changed the way the Shakers played and secured promotion at the first attempt.
